During the shoot of the film Masquerade Vermeir & Heiremans worked together with the photographer Michael De Lausnay.
All the photographs are taken at a single location: Auction House Bernaerts in Antwerp.
MASQUERADE, however shot on one location, is set in a fragmented environment that continuously transforms from a gallery white cube to an auction house, commodity exchange, trading pit, even a courtroom... all places where values are negotiated and exchanged.
The set photographs show the transformations of the set, the making of the film, and the use of green key backgrounds, which are also important elements in the film itself.
Masquerade includes tests and failures in its narrative, challenging the confidence you have in the characters, in the story, but also in the nature of the image itself.
